Because parents, teachers, and other adults don't always see it, they may not understand how extreme bullying can get.
Bullying is when a person is picked on repeatedly by a person(s) who is stronger - physically or socially.
Bullies pick on people they think don't fit in, because of how they look or act (for example, kids who are shy and withdrawn).
Some bullies attack their targets physically (which can mean anything from shoving or tripping to punching or hitting). Others bully with insults (taunting & teasing) or mind games (for example, people in popular groups excluding others or gossiping).
In our Nationally Recognized Bully Proof program, chidlren learn how to deal with bullies, verbally, mentally, and physically. Most programs simply tell kids to "walk away" without giving them the tools to do so effectively. Proof of this can be seen in the statistics that show a rise of bullying.
