Life Skills Development

A martial arts education is not just about kicking and punching - it is about the Life Skills that enable a student to reach their highest potential. Life Skills are things like confidence, team work, focus, discipline, respect, perseverance, etc. These skills, with the physical skills of a martial artist, are what create a person with a Black Belt Attitude.

A good balance of these skills will lead to improved relationships with parents, teachers, and friends. It will also provide the student with the tools to become the best they can be, and achieve all of their goals in life.

These skills are taught to and developed in our students through the Six Qualities of a Champion, our monthly Black Belt Excellence theme and homework, Mat Chats, and the positive and energetic role models of our Instructors.

Just Another Kid Sport – Think Again!
Martial Arts is not just another after-school activity. Basketball, soccer, and baseball are all great activities for children, but Charm City Karate is personal development through a physical discipline.

Our exciting yet disciplined classes focus a child’s attention, thus improving his or her ability to learn. Learning builds a sense of accomplishment. With each new accomplishment a student's self-confidence grows, and confidence is the first step in the empowerment of a person's physical and mental abilities.

Once we begin to develop a students self- confidence, we are then able to instill the values of respect, courtesy, honesty, perseverance, and integrity that are the foundation of martial arts dating back thousands of years.

Furthermore, your child will develop perseverance, which is a non-quitting spirit to overcome life’s obstacles. Instilling a non-quitting spirit helps a child over come challenges, to succeed in the face of adversity, and to be a goal setter, and a goal getter.

These combined physical and character foundations that Charm City Karate develop helps children excel in their academic school studies, sports, and the social endeavors. It ensures that they will have the confidence in themselves and the character to make the right decisions when confronted with negative peer pressure. They will be leaders not followers.

Our approach to teaching kids is to balance life skills with physical training.   The life skills we teach are courtesy, respect, self-discipline, perseverance, indomitable spirit and more.  These qualities prepare children for goal setting and overcoming obstacles.  Preparing students this way empowers then with the tools for success.   At the same time we will challenge them at a pace they can handle physically.
