At Charm City Karate & Life Skills Center our instructors go through a very extensive selection process to insure we have only the best and most talented instructors in the world. Once selected, they are put through an intense and rigorous series of training colleges to guarantee the quality of instruction that our students will receive. Once a Charm City Karate instructor is certified to teach our unique and effective system, they are then required to receive 40 hours of continuing martial arts and instructor education yearly.

This on-going training allows our instructors to stay up to date on the latest and most effective self defense techniques, teaching methods, nutrition and exercise science. This re-certification process is our assurance that every Charm City Karate student will continue to receive only the very best in martial arts training. Charm City Karate instructors are professionals, we are experts in what we do. We expect our instructors to be the best, so you can expect the best from our instructors.

Martial Arts is not just another after-school activity. Basketball, soccer, and baseball are all great activities for children, but Charm City Karate is personal development through a physical discipline.

Our exciting yet disciplined classes focus a child’s attention, thus improving his or her ability to learn. Learning builds a sense of accomplishment. With each new accomplishment a student's self-confidence grows, and confidence is the first step in the empowerment of a person's physical and mental abilities.

Once we begin to develop a students self- confidence, we are then able to instill the values of respect, courtesy, honesty, perseverance, and integrity that are the foundation of martial arts dating back thousands of years.

Furthermore, your child will develop perseverance, which is a non-quitting spirit to overcome life’s obstacles. Instilling a non-quitting spirit helps a child over come challenges, to succeed in the face of adversity, and to be a goal setter, and a goal getter.

These combined physical and character foundations that Charm City Karate develop helps children excel in their academic school studies, sports, and the social endeavors. It ensures that they will have the confidence in themselves and the character to make the right decisions when confronted with negative peer pressure. They will be leaders not followers.

No One Sits on the Bench at Charm City Karate
Martial Arts is not a team sport, the only person that you are competing with is "Yourself." Students come to us from age four to sixty four. Some students are in shape, while others are over weight. Some come for self defense, fitness, and others for fun. Each person is treated as an individual, and is trained to the best of their own ability and potential. A student is never compared to anyone else. At Charm City Karate our instructors are there to guide, instruct, and motivate you to be the best that you can be.

Our 8 year old son, Matthew has been attending Charm City Kenpo Karate for some time now, and we have seen a dramatic increase in Matthew’s confidence and self esteem. The instructors give Matthew all of the individual attention and instruction that he needs, and the school’s commitment to the students’ well being and development is beyond comparison. In this age of TV and video games, it is refreshing and healthy to have Matthew get so much enjoyment out of the ancient art of Karate.
